After interviewing a number for high-profile architects and interiors designers, a major investment company, settled on Studio GAIA to design the company cafeteria of their flagship headquarters in Manhattan.
A cafeteria would undoubtedly be a big part of the corporate culture of the massive company, which employs nearly 2,000 people in its Manhattan office. A massive, 15,000 square foot space was carved into oval and circles to create some of the self-service areas—showing Studio GAIA’s knack for planning and organizing such a sprawling, social space. Along with open-plan table areas, semi-enclosed zones, where smaller groups-within-groups could congregate and eat, break up the monotony of the office-building footprint. A series of four executive dining rooms were laid out in oval-shaped rooms, each with a boardroom-like setting. An inviting green palette invites the company’s 2,000 employees to not only eat in the space, but participate with each other in the communal environment.
